Everything now and then, I haunt the halls of our local community college.
Not intentionally, of course. It’s just that some of the young adults there… they can’t help saying “Hi” to this charming Bear. Or, the unlucky ones get ensnared in my curious mind!
The other day, as I was leaving after dropping off lunch to my beautiful Bear-lady (note: my gal runs the Science Department), a student leaving chemistry class had a big Cheshire cat-grin on her face.
She is a lovely black girl who I had recognized before. She knew of me. So, I simply asked her:
ME: You appear excited about something — interesting experience in class?
HER: I voted today, for the first time.
ME: Awe, cool. What is the biggest concern that compelled who you voted for?
HER: (with Stoic sincerity) Basically to ensure my rights as a black female are protected.
ME: You have different rights than me?
HER: (Looking miffed now) Weelll, hmm, ahem... I think I have to work harder than most!
ME: In school?
HER: I study like the rest do, I suppose. But in life, in general, there are barriers to getting the same outcome as, say, those who are male or not of color.
ME: If a white female counterpart of yours, same age range, is getting better results at something, is it only because of her skin color?
HER: (Annoyed now): Look, Barry, achieving Equality requires special attention. That's why I voted AGAIN. Bye now!!!

Admittedly, I'm no socio-economic scholar. Yet, when it comes to human nature, media conditioning and the perils of the American entitlement system, I know a thing or two.
What I also know is that in January 2021…. The new great handpicked "leader" of our nation, without hesitancy or procrastination, sat down in the Oval Office with his cloth face-diaper...
... And hammered out his ideology for "advancing racial equity."
Which in short (stripping out the waxing poetic abstractness) simply means that he enacted mandates that focus on 'equality of OUTCOME', not so much 'equality of opportunity'.
The former, as your self-responsible mind might suspect, doesn't so much require anyone to excel beyond the norm; to have an incentive to offer unique skill sets or execute on extra effort, in order to receive a reward.
When a certain sect of society becomes more equal than others, simply based off their race or cultural demographic, then that means we are accepting a portion of Marxism philosophy... which is okay with labeling people as oppressors or the oppressed based on class.
Me, personally?
Through inaction / action, I'd rather classify people into buckets like this:
Lazy or hard-working.
Entitled or prideful & humble.
Driven by a hand-out or a Hand Up.
Etc, etc.
These specifics, based upon behavior, put the onus of achievement, ground level, on the individual, instead of a top-down way of trying to micromanage outcomes and sameness for all.
Centralized power structures, history has shown time and time again, to crumble from the very idealistic foundations they briefly stood upon.
What say you?
BONUS:
Western Civilization in less than 8-minuted (PragerU):
I say you need to be black to understand. To achieve through hard work and merit you need a level playing ground and that’s years away. In my short 60 year existence 42 years I have been serving our country, 27 years as a United States Marine and 15 as a defense contractor. I went all the way to uh em… God status attaining the rank of Master Gunnery Sergeant of Marines. For me the experience of being a U.S. Marine made me who I am today. I spent my entire adult life surrounded in a sea of honor and integrity, learning things no Father can teach a son unless he lived the Marine life. The cowards always say “I should have been a Marine.” I stay silent. From the time you pick up Sergeant you are promoted on performance period. Your record against your peers and you have a secret member selection board who cast secret ballots on if you make the cut. You nasty civilians always need a scapegoat and it is always us Black Americans. All racists and under achievers like Angela will just vomit words out of their respective sucks. A level playing field is all any man or woman asks for, hard work, unselfishness, intestinal fortitude, mental, moral, and physical courage will take care of the rest.
She's already likely getting lowered admissions requirements and scholarships based on skin color and not merit, and she's still complaining. Eyeroll.
