A conversation with The Universe
Plus (for Pro Subscribers) a link to download My Story—a 22-page PDF which details my mentorship with a wise soul, met at a secret naval base on the coast of Maine.
I’m on hiatus this weekend with a new edition of Weekend Whats, so I am passing something along from the past, which I think is very appropriate to pass along on a Sunday:
One of the firmest universal truths I’ve come to know over the years is this:
The universe takes care of the details. At some point between my Dad’s death and my enlisting in the Navy, I had consistent, focused inner-dialogue over a certain time period. Whether 2 weeks, 1 month or 6 months, I don’t exactly remember anymore. And, it’s really not important now.
But, what is important to know is that whatever we issue to the Universe as a wish, dream, or desire, it will absolutely (without question) give it to us with the same energy with which we made the request.
If, in a hypnosis state, you could go back and recollect all the thoughts you’ve ever had about something, you’d eventually end up finding that, at some point, one of them, or a select magnified few, was the main culprit for bringing forth what you currently see and experience.
The above text is in block quote format for one reason.
It’s an excerpt from my semi-autobiographical book (from 2005).
Semi, I say, because while most of the content from my 267-page book, Manifest Life, are my debriefings from conversations I’ve had with self-help gurus (so-called saints, sages, and spiritual masters)…
There is a 22-page section in there that dives deep into unique experiences, lessons learns, and stories heard… up until that point in my life (early 2000s).
That section, titled My Story, is available to Pro subscribers. The link is accessible below my conversation with The Universe.
The stories and actionable insights, passed along to me by “Scott” — an unnamed gentleman who I once met on a basketball court at a secret naval base off the cost of Main — are well worth the Pro-subscription investment here (promise).
For everyone else…
Here is the Prologue from the book (I hope it inspires you):
Barry: What's a life-changing truth you can tell me about today?
The Universe: It's not supposed to be hard… it's not supposed to be easy… it's not supposed to be ANYTHING… until you say it is, until you BELIEVE it is! And THAT is the name of the game … win it, and dominion is granted, the world is your oyster, and providence becomes play… without all the sweat, blood, tears, and years you've been led to believe are requisites.
Barry: You mean I can create things for myself without hard work?
The Universe: No matter how hard you work, prepare or calculate, Barry, the final ingredient necessary to leap hurdles and manifest dreams will always come down to a little spark of magic that no amount of physical maneuvering can ensure.
Barry: Spark of magic? Can you elaborate?
The Universe: ALWAYS do what you can with what you've got from where you are… however, and this is REALLY tricky, but SUPER important, don't expect that YOUR efforts alone are what will make your dreams come true. Don't hinge the manifestation of your goals to WHAT YOU DO but, instead, understand that by doing all you can, YOU INSPIRE me to do all I can.
Barry: It's almost like you're saying that if you think I'm serious enough—and trying my best—that you'll take up some of the slack for me?
The Universe: It's like this … you do “A”, I'll do “B”, and you arrive at “C”. This is how everything works. “A” alone, however, will NEVER get you to “C”… but it's the ONLY WAY, to get a “B”. Now beware…if you forget about “B”, and think that everything rides on “A”… yow … you'll SWEAT THE DETAILS, criticize yourself for not doing more and for not being better, and eventually convince yourself that you don't have the 'right stuff'… effectively [in a way] decommissioning, or FIRING, me.
Barry: I wouldn't do that. You seem way too cool for such a hasty, impatient, attitude from me!
The Universe: Impatience is what you feel when you think the future, in either hours, days, or years, will be 'better' than the present. It won't.
Barry: Ahhhh, that seems so rigid and matter-of-fact … actually, I was just kidding about the 'impatient' part. But, since you mentioned it, are you saying it's not my job to try to anticipate something better for myself in some future point from now?
The Universe: Of all the wonderful places you'll go, of all the happy times you'll have, and of all the adventures that now call unto you, each will be enhanced and will more quickly come to pass, with your absolute immersion into today's places, times, and adventures. If you knew what I now know, Barry, you wouldn't be in such a hurry. Not because you don't have countless worlds to look forward to, but because the world you're now on was once one of them.
Barry: It's almost like you're asking me to give up TOTAL control of HOW to obtain my future—what happens, what I want to experience, where I want to be… [interrupted]
The Universe: You already know that worrying only fouls things up… but why? Because thoughts become things! And if your thoughts include doubt, it means you're able to visualize and see things happening in your life that you don't want to happen. And as soon as you can mentally see them, their reality (in the world of thoughts) emerges, and they immediately begin STRIVING to become part of your Time-Space life. And the more you think ANY thoughts, right or wrong, good or bad, especially when you FEEL them (as you think them), the closer they get to becoming “THINGS”.
Barry: In other words, to quit looking to the outside world so much for 'how to' clues?
The Universe: [Yes]. In the jungles of time and space, it's wise to remember that the best hope one has for thriving among the seen, the known, and the manifested, comes from playing off the unseen, the unknown, and the not yet manifested. Whatever you want, Barry, go there first, and go there often.
Barry: Okay, okay … I hear ya and I – most of me anyway—wants to believe and trust in this invisible world where I can CREATE anything I desire from the inside out. So, if this is the case and I expect something with intense focus, but don't get what I want, or haven't gotten what I want, maybe that means it wasn't meant to be for me?
The Universe: OK, let's try this … ever stop and realize that if there was no such thing as time and space, your thoughts would instantaneously manifest before you?
Barry: Makes sense!
The Universe: Thought so. Very good. You understand that in such a reality, there'd be no lag or delay as I jockeyed the players, events, and circumstances of your life into place. Now, in such a reality, it would also be pretty easy to see that there'd be no outside, non-you factors, influencing, guiding, or directing the manifestations that occurred in your experience, Right? You'd simply choose your thoughts, and presto.
Barry: Okay, I'm still with ya.
The Universe: Alright then, if you suddenly added the parameters of time and space to this reality, can you still see that there'd be no outside, non-you factors, influencing, guiding or directing the manifestations that occur all around you? Can you see, that under NO CIRCUMSTANCES, would anything, EVER, be predestined or “meant to be" - not relationships, not jobs, not nothin'? Further, that such hypothetical destinies would SEVERELY LIMIT your ability to create your own reality, stifle your creativity, and make “null and void” the inviolate, universal principle of 'thoughts becoming things'?
Barry: You give a convincing argument.
The Universe: Excellent! Because that brings us to today and the morals behind this lesson … #1. Absolutely ANYTHING CAN HAPPEN in time and space, if you dream it up first; #2. Positively NOTHING WILL HAPPEN in time and space, if you don't. And, #3. Lags and delays should never be cause to assume something isn't meant to be. They're just the cloaks and curtains I must work behind.
Barry: I appreciate what you've taught me—and what I've soaked up in such a profound way—today. The trick, I know, will be to start living with these truths in mind when I'm looking to manifest something new in my life.
The Universe: The trick is learning to maintain an unwavering focus upon your desired end result, your completed dream, the 'finish line', without insisting upon, or even contemplating, its means of attainment, no matter how logical, obvious, or tempting it may seem.
Barry: This may be a very rough place to go starting out—not intentionally trying to figure out daily or weekly action plans and all—but I'll abide by this and try to control my expectations more.
The Universe: Release any expectations you may have of how you think your dreams will come true, Barry, but by all means, with every fiber of your being, expect that they will, as you busy your self enjoying who and where you already are.
Barry: Okay, will do. Thank you, again, for your time today.
The Universe: Just a reminder—in case you forgot, in case you've thought otherwise, or in case you never knew … there is nothing you can't have. There is nothing you can't do. There is nothing you can't be.
