How to use your Grandma to preserve humanity!
It starts with a cup of tea. Really. Oh, and this...
Your Granny knows a lot — yes, a looooot!
So, shove a digital recorder in her face (ahem, after you make her some tea and put a shawl over her shoulders)…
And…
Start to ask her some wisdom-eliciting questions!
As many as she’ll possibly muster up within the time it’ll take for her to finish her tea!
Why am I encouraging such personal bonding time with your Grandma?
( well, quite frankly, any family member who has lived a long life full of activities and social experiences )
Simple!
The gentlemen I am about to introduce you to reminds me of the guy, Brandon, whose message I shared with you at the beginning of January.
In this case, it is a Brian, who has a unique way to distill knowledge and preserve time-honored wisdom, by simply using this voice recorder:
As brought to my attention by Chris Campbell…
Brian Roemmele launched a project called the Save Wisdom Project.
It’s brilliant….
And… cost nothing. Nope. Not a damn thing. Zilch. Nada. Zippo (assuming you already have a recording device, that is).
Here’s what you do:
Make a vow to become a Wisdom Keeper (vowing to yourself is fine).
Find an elder; a family member whose mind should be time-capsuled.
Get their consent to share their wisdom, memories, over coffee / tea.
Put your phone away.
Take a recorder to your sit down. Push record.
Start asking these 1000 questions.
That’s it!
I dig this idea…
For its simplicity; for its easy ability to capture, in a raw and real manner, knowledge and memories that may have been long repressed in the back of your grandma’s head. ;)
If you end up doing this, let me know (as I will in turn).
