Via the intro to my October 1st Weekend Whats post, I mentioned how October is my 2nd favorite month of the year. Yes, my dear bear cub, dark, gloomy and scary does have its merits.
Whether it’s dressing up (who doesn’t want to be a masked madman for at least one night?), eating candy (like it’s out of style), creative decorations (clowns always get the trophy), embracing the dark side (eat your heart out Anakin Skywalker), or horror movies (Guillermo del Toro, you kick ass)…
The “Halloween season” (the entire month of October for me) gives all of us the go-ahead to just let loose, be creative, have fun and connect with friends and family in unique and exciting ways.
I have an entire post, from 2019, just about that — enjoy it if you dare! ;)

Just start here with my personally curated list of links worth checking out this week / weekend:
😁 Commercials / Parodies:
Good Choices - GEICO commercial (2014)
Anything that makes fun of people who need a sign on their back (love ya Bill Engvall) deserves to be at the top of my list.
David S Pumpkins - SNL (2016)
Damn, Tom Hanks as a bizarre and inexplicable character, who appears in a haunted house ride, is a must-see.
David Pumpkins Returns - SNL (2022)
Well, enough said. This iconic character deserves to haunt us… whenever he chooses.
Spooky Car Wash Prank - FORD (2014)
A group of drivers were told they were on a filmed Ford test drive. Aha. So they thought!
Toilet Death Ejector - SNL (2019)
Nanna doesn’t need to die while taking a giant dump!
🍿 Movies
Trick 'r Treat (2007)
Starring Anna Paquin, Brian Cox, and Dylan Baker, this is an anthology horror comedy that interweaves five stories that occur on Halloween. One of my favs.
Sinister (2012)
Starring Ethan Hawke as a true-crime writer who discovers a box of home movies that reveal the murders of different families, this is the kind of movie which will keep you from sleeping at night.
Hubie Halloween (2020
Starring Adam Sandler, this is another comedy horror film depicting a good-natured but eccentric community volunteer in Salem, Massachusetts, who spends every Halloween making sure the residents celebrate safely and play by the rules. Funny shit!
Talk to Me (2023)
Starring Sophie Wilde, Joe Bird, Alexandra Jensen, when a group of friends discover how to conjure spirits using an embalmed hand, they become hooked on the new thrill, until one of them goes too far and unleashes terrifying supernatural forces.
The Conjuring (2013)
Starring Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga as real-life paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren, this is the foundation film of the successful franchise, which is based upon real-life events. The movie has been praised for its suspenseful atmosphere, strong performances, and effective scares. Believe me, it delivers!
Well, that is just the short list off the top of my head!
I obviously left out (intentionally) the classics (i.e., Pyscho, Rosemary’s Baby, House on Haunted Hill, etc.) or the 80’s stuff (i.e., Evil Dead, Nightmare on Elm Street, Creep Show, etc.)
Again, my main links above are more recent things on top of mind awareness. Enjoy ‘em!
